Hello, so it came to that time of the month again where I sat down to write my playlist. I realised I have only really listened to one album this month and that one album is Beyonces lemonade 🍋
It’s been just about a month now since lemonade launched on the streaming network ‘tidal’ without any press. Similar to what we saw in 2013 with Beys self titled album. I have always liked beyonce but I have never really listened to her that often… Until now. When I saw that she had brought out a new album I wasn’t too bothered by it because I didn’t think I would enjoy it. I didnt really understand what everyone was going on about. I went onto I tunes and listened to the previews and became obsessed. That weekend I got that album and I honestly haven’t listened to much else since. As you may know it is being described as ‘the visual album’ this is because it come with a dvd with monologues and music videos. I would have to say my favourite video would have to be either formation or hold up. It’s very creative and as it provides a visual to the album which can make you listen to something in an completely different way.
Let’s actually get on to the music. The album is quite different from some of her older music but just as good if not better. There are 4 feature tracks on the album from some of the bigget names in the industry at the moment. The weeknd, kendrick Lamar, Jack White and James Blake all make an appearance on this record. While James blakes feature song is short in length at just over one minute long I still love it. If you have read any of my other posts you will know that I love the weeknd so of course this feature is one of my favourites off of lemonade. Kendrick features on the song ‘freedom’ the song is all about black empowerment which is something I think is very important. I love his voice and I think it fits really well into the feeling of the album. ‘Don’t hurt yourself’ is the song Jack White features on,this song feels very agressive and is by far the most explicit song on the album. I love it his voice is so unique and blends really well with hers. The song I have found myself listening the most to is ‘formation’ although my least favourite lyrically I just love her voice and the beat of it. The song I dislike the most on this album I would have to say is ‘daddy lessons’ don’t get me wrong I like it but I don’t think it really fits in with the album as a whole. It is growing on me though and I have found myself listening to it more and more. In my opinion the best song lyrically is ‘sandcastles’ it’s a quiet ballad and I just think it was written so well. I love it .Some of the lyrics got fans speculating did Jay z cheat on her. Songs like sorry and hold up definitely support this rumour. If you remember not too long back a video leaked online of Beyonces sister Solange attacking him in an elevator. Until now the family have stayed quiet on the assault and could this possibly be related. There is also rumours that Jay z cheated on her with Rita ora. It is said that Jay z will be making his own album soon telling his side of the story so I guess we just have to wait until that.
I hope you enjoyed reading my little review on Beyonces lemonade. I 100% reccomend this album to anyone. I love it and I’m sure you will too.
See you in my next post. Byeeee 🍋✌🏼️
