Welcome back, I hope everyone has had a great week! Today I’m back with my review of the Flying Vinyl January edition,
If you are a regular on this blog or follow me on social media then you will know that I do not shut up about Flying vinyl, so you probably already know what they do however if you are new here then let me just sum up what they do in a line or two.
They are a subscription service that sends you 5 exclusively pressed, high quality 7″ records each month! It costs £20 including postage and the money goes to support the indie artists directly. In my opinion, it is the best Vinyl subscription service, they genuinely care about getting the music out there in the best form into the hands of the people who will give it the time and appreciation it deserves.
Every three months the packaging is redesigned and this month is the second in the blue yellow and orange abstract set. And of course, every month’s box includes a little booklet with information about all the bands you will find in the box.
This months box is packed with some real gems including an exclusive from my favourite band of 2017, keep reading until the end for that one.
Demob Happy
A side- Be your man
AA side- Dead Dreamers
Kicking things off with a double A-side coloured pressing of Uk trio Demob Happy’s singles ‘Be Your man’ and ‘Dead Dreamers’. ‘Be your man’ is a psych-rock style track with its roaring rhythms and raw vocals. ‘Dead Dreamers’ gives off an electro feel with the reverberant vocals over the solid riffs that lead the track. Both of these tracks are from their upcoming second studio album ‘Holy Doom’ that is set for release next month.
Nia Wyn
A side- Do you love enough
B side- Help me
Hailing from North Wales Nia Wyn is new to the scene with her unique blend of soul and Hip-hip, She has released three singles to date and has picked up the support of BBC introducing. A side ‘Do you love enough demonstrates her impressive vocal and songwriting capability, this track is guaranteed to get your toe tapping and your head bopping. B side ‘Help me’ has a really clean bluesy sounding rhythm which grounds the track and sets the foundation to allow her silky show-stopping vocals to lead the way.
ViØlets
A side- Falling in Time
B side- Bodyshock
ViØlets are a London based trio who are making some real electro-pop bangers. A side ‘Falling in time’ is their latest single and is a smooth slow-burning track that features really crafted layering of soft riffs and airy rhythmic synths. B side ‘Bodyshock’ is a track that hasn’t actually been released yet so this really is an exclusive, it’s a beautiful ambient Dreamwave that is setting the bar high for the bands future releases.
Luke Marzec
A side- Another Guy
B side- Say one more time
London multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Luke Marzec has only released two singles to date, however, he has already mastered his own distinctive sound, blending soul and electro on A side track ‘Another guy’. B side ‘Say one more time’ is a chilled synth-drenched that showcases his attention to detail.Brilliant things to come from Luke, keep your eyes and ears peeled.
The Amazons
A side- Palace
B side- Ultraviolet
Reading formed four-piece The Amazons are no stranger to Flying vinyl having featured In one of the first editions. I’m a massive fan of these guys so I was so excited when I found out they were in this months box. The A-side features their emotive album closer ‘Palace’ this strikingly delicate ballad is perfectly paired with the B side ‘Ultraviolet’ a track packed full of gritty riffs and soaring vocals to give a real contrast of the band’s capability. This is pressed on bright orange vinyl and looks really cool on the turntable.
