BBC Introducing in Kent celebrated turning 10 the only way possible… with a massive party at the Tunbridge wells forum, I was lucky enough to have been invited down and it was fab!
The night was curated and hosted by my actual idol, the one and only Abbie McCarthy and showcased the best acts that the Kent scene has to offer, starting off with alt-pop act ‘Art school girlfriend’ a name I had heard thrown around but just one of those I never got round to checking out. She absolutely smashed it, her voice is one of the smoothest I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing and not just her but her whole band did an excellent job of opening the night up with their beautifully mellow tracks. There is a really nice interview that she did for Introducing Kent for international women’s day that is really worth a listen, catch that here: ArtSchoolGirlfriend
Next up was singer-songwriter Elle Watson, her pitch-perfect delicate vocals soared the room alongside her witty personality with small stories and moments of crowd interaction scattered throughout. My favourite moment of her set had to be the track ‘Glued’ what a masterpiece! She has got a very bright future ahead of her and I cannot wait to see her selling out headline shows in the near future.
It was time for the first band of the night in the form of the fantastic Sports Team, these guys have been cropping up a lot over the last year or two so I was super excited to see them live and they lived up to all expectations. They really got the party started with their massive indie anthems… well actually mostly with frontman Alex’s expressive dance moves. They showcased the best of their ever-growing discography including a massive favourite of mine ‘Stanton’. Expect to be seeing their name a lot here.
If you follow me on social media or have been reading the blog for a while now then you will know I am a massive fan of the punk trio Lady bird, they have had a great couple of months celebrating the release of their debut EP social potions so it was really nice to see them back in their local habitat doing what they do best. It was very apparent by the size and energy of the crowd that they have fully established themselves as the local’s favourites, the atmosphere was electric during their sadly short set that left everyone cheering for more.
Unfortunately, I only caught a short part of headliner Indoor Pets set, however, what I did see I really enjoyed. Fresh off the back of their UK headline tour the fabulous four piece graced the stage knocking out some of their most loved tunes and of course their massive single ‘So Soon’. I can confirm that frontman Jamies voice is as beautiful in real life as you would expect, totally spectacular.
Massive congratulations to everyone that has kept BBC introducing in Kent going over its 10 magnificent years, here’s to the next 10 x
