Hello everybody, today I am back with the latest in my ‘Artist of the week’ series. Of course, this series is the one where I share with you an artist I have been loving over the past week in less than 400 words. I’m happy to say this week’s artist of the week is Bedford formed four-piece ‘The Scruff’.
Despite having only released four singles they have really taken the scene by storm gaining recognition from prestigious outlets such as BBC Introducing and Radio X, this support is much deserved as they have quickly found their feet and carved out their own sound.
They have demonstrated a wide spectrum of sound from the soulfully written slow-builder ‘Her’ that was inspired by the passing of drummer Omar’s mother to the heavier hitting ‘Leave it alone’ that features an energetic drum arrangement as well as frontman Adams perky vocals. Dynamic yet distinctive, every track is offering you sometimes slightly different to the last and I think that’s a really healthy habit to get into to keep the sound fresh and prevent just pure recycling.
Their latest single ‘White Flag’ has perfected the formula for a full-on BANGER, with its zingy riffs, wonderfully cheeky British accent and of course a massive chorus that you cannot help but scream along to. Talking of the tracks meaning the band said ‘It reflects the day to day struggles of life in a relationship, and the timeout needed from your loved ones’ confirming their well-rounded ability to produce tracks that are catchy yet hold some real lyrical substance.
